This list is my top 150 that I wrote down on May 8, 2007 (I actually wrote down 214, but we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re cutting it off at 150). I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not a particularly consistent fella, and I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m sure the list would vary wildly depending on what day I formulated it on. In fact, looking back at it now (January 25, 2008), I can’t believe the order I put some stuff in! It’s really just an excuse to systematically talk about a lot of cartoonists I like, and hopefully turn my readers on to a lot of good stuff they may not have seen before. <\/p>\n

Some things to keep in mind:<\/p>\n

1) This list is based on nothing other than my fleeting opinions of May 8, 2007. This is not a list of the most influential cartoonists, or most prolific cartoonists, or best draftsmen, or the best storytellers\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 just a list of the 150 cartoonists I felt were the best all-around cartoonists on this particular date. Some of them don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t draw, and just write comics. Some of them don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t write, and just draw comics. Most of them do both the writing and drawing.<\/p>\n

2) There are some serious gaps in my knowledge. Although there are some non-US cartoonists on the list, by knowledge of comics is unfortunately skewed towards that which has been available in the US. Also, there are many, many more men than women\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 just as there have traditionally been more male than female cartoonists. In spite of being a web cartoonist, I really haven\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t adequately experienced the wide world of webcomics either\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 there are so many of them, I wonder if anyone really has?<\/p>\n

3) If I know you, you aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t on the list. I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to open that can of worms, and I can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t really be objective about the work of my friends, so although some of my comrades would certainly have made this list if they were considered, they weren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t.<\/p>\n

Basically, an accurate title for this would be The 150 Greatest Cartoonists I Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t Know, Based on My Limited Knowledge, and Only Accurate for the Date of May 8, 2007 Countdown!<\/strong> Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just call this ridiculous endeavor The 150 Greatest Cartoonists Countdown!<\/strong>, huh? The list on this page will be gradually updated as I work my way through it.<\/p>\n
