Kirk Taylor was nice enough to pass on this interesting link. He has put up a website on largely forgotten cartoonist Wesley Morse. The website features images from the Taylor Morse collection, a collection of art found in the personal scrapbooks of 1920’s chorus girl Avonne Taylor, who inspired the artwork. Morse is best known for creating and drawing Bazooka Joe, and for drawing many of the better-drawn Tijuana bibles (Morse is featured in Craig Yoe‘s recent book Clean Cartoonist’s Dirty Drawings). Kirk is also working on a book on Morse, which sounds like it should be a very interesting read. Go see the site here.

Mystery Artist Found
Reader Steve Walker sent me an update on the mystery artist who made the below cartoon he had sent in and I wrote about here… his search has concluded it is by William Gropper.
It still could use a good caption… please contribute any you think of in the comments.

THE CARTOON CRYPT: Doctor of Forest and Brave Warrior of Sanitary Gown
Another mysterious old Japanese cartoon from YouTube… this one is titled 森ã®ãŠåŒ»è€…ã¨ç™½è¡£ã®å‹‡å£«, which Babel Fish translates as Doctor of Forest and Brave Warrior of Sanitary Gown. The cartoon part starts a quarter of the way in. I like how the Brave Warrior of Sanitary Gown seems to be saluting a monkey.
